Al Najah Private School LLC lays out the commitment to providing a sustainable, healthy and safe workplace for staff, students, contractors and visitors. This commitment reflects the intentions of the Abu Dhabi Emirate Physical Education Department Emergency Response and Injury Procedures Policy and the Education Sector OSH policy.
This policy applies to all staff, students, contractors and visitors, and to all OSH records created or received by the school as a result of OSH activities and processes at the school.
1. Purpose
To ensure the safety and well-being of students during physical education activities through clear procedures for managing emergencies and injuries. This policy supports compliance with ADEK and DOH guidelines.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all students, staff, and activities conducted under the P.E. department within school premises or off-site sports facilities.
3. Emergency Preparedness
- All P.E. staff must be certified in basic first aid and CPR (renewed every 2 years).
- Emergency contact numbers (school nurse, ambulance, etc.) must be clearly posted in all sports areas.
- First aid kits must be accessible in all P.E. areas and checked weekly.
- A mobile phone must be carried by the P.E. teacher during off-campus activities.
4. Types of Common Injuries in P.E.
- Sprains and strains
- Fractures and dislocations
- Head injuries (including concussion)
- Spinal injuries
- Heat exhaustion or dehydration
- Cuts and abrasions
5. Immediate Injury Response Procedure
a. Minor Injury (e.g., cuts, bruises, mild sprains):
- Stop activity immediately.
- Administer basic first aid (ice pack, bandage, etc.).
- Inform the school nurse and complete an incident form.
- Notify parents via phone call or written note, depending on severity.
b. Moderate to Serious Injury (e.g., suspected fracture, head injury):
- Stop all activities.
- Do not move the student unless in danger.
- Call the school nurse and senior leadership team immediately.
- Contact emergency services (998) if needed.
- Inform parents immediately and document the incident.
c. Head or Spinal Injury:
- Immobilize the student.
- Call school nurse immediately.
- Do not allow the student to return to physical activities until medical clearance is provided.
- Complete detailed incident and injury report.
6. Post-Incident Follow-Up
- Ensure medical clearance is obtained before the student returns to P.E.
- Provide emotional support and monitor for delayed symptoms.
- Review the incident to identify and address potential safety gaps.
7. Preventive Measures
- Conduct pre-activity warm-ups and cool-downs.
- Ensure all equipment is regularly inspected and safe to use.
- Enforce appropriate footwear and clothing.
- Monitor environmental conditions (e.g., heat, humidity) and modify or cancel activities accordingly.
- Perform regular risk assessments for all activities.
8. Staff Responsibilities
